Trailer for Paul Giamatti’s Cold Souls

It’s about damn time we got a trailer for Cold Souls. CS received a lot of positive internet buzz after it’s Sundance premiere despite a lukewarm reception from the judges. Paul Giamatti plays himself in this comedy with a tinge of science fiction. Stumbling upon an article in The New Yorker about a high-tech company that extracts, deep-freezes and stores people’s souls, Paul very well might have found the key to happiness for which he’s been searching. But, complications arise when he is the unfortunate victim of “soul-trafficking”. Sounds like fun to me. The film releases August 7th in NY and LA with a wider release in weeks to follow. Imagine someone decided to remake Little Shop of Horrors. Now imagine Audrey II has been replaced with a newborn baby and the Seymour character is now the mother of said newborn. Pretty fucked up idea, right? Well that’s what Writer/Director Paul Solet has done, and if the hype from Sundance and the amazing NSFW red band trailer below are any indication he’s made on hell of a frightening flick. Magnet/Magnolia Gets U.S. Distribution Rights for Bronson

A while back I posted the trailer for Nicholas Winding Refn’s amazing looking Bronson. The film has since had it’s U.S. premiere at Sundance and as of today, according to indiWIRE, has been picked up for U.S. distribution by Magnet/Magnolia films. This makes the second time Refn has paired with Magnolia. In 2006 Magnolia released his Pusher trilogy. I only hope that they give Bronson at least a small theatrical run. This one looks like it deserves to be seen on the big screen. Watch the trailer below, if you haven’t seen it already. If you have, watch it again.

Sundance Films You Need to See #4: Goliath

The Zellner Bros. Goliath is they story of a recently divorced man who pins his hopes of redemption of finding his missing cat. This film was part of 2008′s Sundance lineup, but since my site didn’t exist then I felt that I should bring it to your attention now. Some of you may have caught this on IFC on Demand over the summer, if you didn’t It’s a really odd funny little film that I think everyone should see. No specifics on DVD release, but IFC is promising sometime this winter. Hopefully they’ll hurry.

2009′s Sundance Films You Need To See # 3: World’s Greatest Dad

World’s Greatest Dad is the story of a father (Robin Williams) who fakes a suicide note for his son who accidentally dies due to auto-erotic asphyxiation. The film, directed by Bobcat Goldthwait, is a comedy of the darkest variety. There are no trailers available as of yet, but I’ll be sure to post one as soon as they are. I don’t know about the rest of you but after 1991′s Shakes the Clown I knew Goldthwait had a great film in him somewhere. Shakes, while ridiculous and uneven, is still one of my favorite dark comedies. The film currently has no distribution, but with the rave reviews it’s getting it shouldn’t be long.

*Williams is usually his best in little films like this.
