Trailer For The Surreal Greek Drama Dogtooth: NSFW

Director Yorgos Lanthimos took home the Un Certain Regard prize from Cannes film festival last week, but sadly Dogtooth still has no US distribution. Check out the synopsis and beautifully bizarre trailer below and let me know what you think. Remember it’s NSFW. It’s got boobies all up in it.

Pandorum Trailer # 2

pandorum_poster1
A while back we posted the 1st trailer for this paranoid space thriller and I was pretty geeked up for it. The second trailer, however, gives away a bit too much. Note to editors that cut these trailers: Somtimes we don’t need to know everything about the movie before we see it. Thanks. Pandorum releases Sept. 9th. Am I still going to see it? Of course I am, but as most of you already know I’m a bit of a sucker for anything Sci-fi or Horror. For those of you that don’t mind the spoiler, enjoy the trailer below.

How Unabashedly Mediocre Was Terminator Salvation?

baleshooter
Following the disappointment that was Terminator: Salvation I thought it was a good time to ask which of the 4 films you thought was the best in the series. So bring it on geeks, which is your favorite? And did any of you actually like Salvation?

Lars Von Trier’s Antichrist Will Be Released In The U.S.!

antichrist-poster
Since it’s Monday premiere at Cannes Von Trier’s Antichrist has been the talk of the festival. With all the controversy surrounding the project it was unclear if a North American distributor would step up to the plate, thankfully IFC had the testicular fortitude to do exactly that. Von Trier paints a grim and gory tale of a couple who retreats to a cabin deep in the woods to recover from the death of their son when things go horribly wrong. IFC hasn’t set a release date yet, but I’m sure it will be available on-demand as well. I’ll keep you posted.

* At the press conference for the film Von Trier declared himself “The World’s Greatest Director”. He then pulled out a copy of Citizen Kane and proceeded to urinate on it screaming “Fuck you Rosebud, Fuck You Welles” Alright well the second part didn’t happen, but it should have.

World’s Greatest Dad Gets A Release Date

worldsgreatestdad_filmstill2
For those of you curious about the fate of Bobcat Goldthwaith’s pitch black comedy World’s Greatest Dad you may rest easy. It’s received a limited theatrical run starting August 21st. No cities have been announced yet, but if you live in major market and are lucky enough to get it in a theater near you, rush to see it. If you need a quick refresher, the movie stars Robin Williams as a father who covers up the accidental death by auto-erotic asphyxiation of his son by faking a suicide note. Which is later reprinted without permission and becomes a major hit nationally. Williams has had his ups and downs over his career, but I always think he’s at this best in small films like this.

Trailer For Cormac McCarthy And John Hillcoat’s The Road

roadIt’s about damn time. With all the rumors of production troubles and recuts we finally have a trailer and release date for the much anticipated The Road. This post apocalyptic story of a man (Viggo Mortensen) and his son (Kodi Smit-McPhee) who fight to survive by any means is set to be released Nov 14th. Nearly a year after it’s original release date. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m psyched. Cormac McCarthy + John Hillcoat = me having to change my underwear. I just had a fanboy orgasm typing that. Oh, and any movie that includes the credits Baby Eater and Well Fed Cannibal has got to be at least watchable, right?

Mystery Team Trailer

mysteryteam
Dan Eckman’s Mystery Team has been floating around for quite a while without a distributor. With all the sold out showings, good press, and this amazing trailer I’m really not sure why. Thankfully the good folks over at Lionsgate (who usally shovel shitty horror films direct to video) have wisely picked this up and will give the soon to be sleeper hit the theatrical release in deserves in the fall. Hopefully there will be a decent ad campaign to go with it. Watch the trailer below.

Trailer #1 For Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes

sherlock_holmes_downey1
The idea of Guy Ritchie bringing Sherlock Holmes to the big screen nearly made me cringe when I first heard it. It’s not that I don’t like some of his films, but rather the idea of him making another film (Swept Away) outside of his wheelhouse that makes me a bit uneasy. While the first trailer for Holmes makes it look like big budget schlock, it also makes it look like a a hella good time. My reservations are not completely put to rest, but this is a damn good start. Enjoy the schlocky goodness below.

Question: Does anyone else think Mark Strong looks more than a bit like Andy Garcia 15 years ago?

Bringing it back..from the dead.

Even before the month long hiatus of johnnyvengeance things had slowed down quite a bit. But as of today, prepare for us to be back in a very big way. Changes are a coming…
1. More Video
in my attempt to appeal to a larger audience the site will become more video oriented. Which means a more drunken video blogs, more video reviews, as well as a few other things in the works, including short films from yours truly.
2. Music
Music, is a large part of my life. I go to as many shows a week as I do movies. So each week or day (I’m undecided on this) I’ll feature an artist that I can’t stop listening to and share some of their music with you. If you like it BUY IT!
3. More Shameless Self Promotion
I like doing this. I geek out for reading movie news, watching trailers, finding out about movies before all the rest of you do. It’s what I do. So I’m asking you right now for help. If you come to my site, if you love it, hate it, or want to come to my house and punch me in the throat. Tell people about it. I want this site to succeed, but I’ll need some help and a lot of good luck if that’s going to happen.
So there it is, that’s what going on. You might see a few dead spots in our posting pattern over the next few months as I’ll be moving twice, but fear not we are not going anywhere. So get your ass out there and tell your friends and enemies alike all about us. Oh, and if you want a sweet JohnnyVengeance t-shirt just let me know. I’ll be pressing a few and giving them away to help out with my shameless self promotion. Now back to the real work. Enjoy the site!
