Alien Raiders: Trailer

I haven’t really been a big fan of what Warner Bros. Raw Feed has had to offer, but with all the good press that Alien Raiders is getting it’s kind of hard to dismiss. The film, directed by Ben Rock creator of the infamous “stickman” from The Blair Witch Project, is about a group of rogue scientist who track an alien infestation to a small family grocery store and take it’s employees and customers hostage in a desperate attempt to find out which of them is host to the virus. The plot certainly isn’t anything new, but after watching the trailer I’ll give it a shot. The film stars Rockmond Dunbar (Prison Break), Carlos Bernard (24), and Matthew St. Patrick (Six Feet Under).
Check out the trailer below.

Does anyone else think this is a terrible title?

Dolph Lundgren Might Be Expendable

20061006-lundgren
The newest name rumored to be added to the already “kick-ass” cast of Sylvester Stallone’s Expendables is none other than his Rocky IV nemesis, Dolph Lundgren. Dolph has been cast out into direct-to-dvd obscurity in the last few years so this is a huge step up for him. At this time he’s not yet signed, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Expendables is set to be directed by Stallone, who also penned the script. The premise is about a group of mercs who invade South American country in order to overthrow a dictator. Stallone has seen a bit of success recently with both Rambo and Rocky sequels fairing well with the critics and at the box office. It would take a pretty big disaster for this not to get a theatrical release. Other cast include, Jet Li, Jason Statham, and Stallone himself. Now if they could only find a way to sign Van Damme. Any ideas?

Video Vengeance: 11/24

hancock
If you have a DVD buying habit like mine this is a good week to save some money. The Will Smith/Peter Berg travesty Hancock has made it’s way to retail shelves . I’ve always tought that Smith has enough charisma to carry any film, how director Peter Berg and company managed to tank this project so badly that I wanted to walk out of the theater I’ll never know.Berg also manages to waste the talent of Jason Bateman. Bateman is a funny guy, and a pretty solid actor, but he’s given nothing to work with in this movie. For those of you who did enjoy this train wreck you’ll be happy to know there are Single and Double Disc “Unrated” editions available, as well as a Blu Ray with all the same features as the 2 disc edition.

Also out this week is the latest in a very long line of Eddie Murphy disasters, Meet Dave. In the film Eddie Murphy plays the captain of an alien ship that is in the shape of a human life form which is of course Eddie Murphy. To be fair I’ve only seen the trailer. But with Murphy’s recent track record, and the few clips I have seen, I can guarantee I won’t be adding it to my collection or even my Netflix queue . I’ll go back and watch Dennis Quaid in Innerspace instead. I suggest you do the same. Skip this mess.

Note to Mr. Murphy: You haven’t been funny Since Beverly Hills Cop. It’s time to hang it up.

spy
If you absolutely must buy a movie this week Criterion Collection has reissued The Spy Who Came in From the Cold. It’s excellent film set in 1960′s Cold War Germany. If you haven’t seen it, add it to your queue or hell even buy it. Criterion consistently puts out some of the best DVD’s and they’re almost always worth buying.

Adventureland: Trailer

Greg Mottola’s Superbad was easily one of the funniest comedies I’ve seen in a long time. Check out the trailer for his newest film Adventureland below. It looks like it might headed in a more serious direction, but I think it’ll be a pretty damn good film.

Note: Jesse Eisenberg who plays the lead in Adventureland has a movie due out early 2010 called Zombieland. Strange.

Black Dynamite: Trailer

Finally a Blaxplotation parody that looks like it’s done right. Don’t get me wrong Undercover Brother was funnier than it should have been, but I think Black Dynamite will blow it away. I know, I know that was bad. Watch below as Michael Jai White kicks your jive talkin’turkey ass to the pavement! Sucka! Oh, and this is definitely NSFW. Unless of course you’re the boss. :)

Darren Aranofsky’s The Wrestler: Trailer

It’s finally here! I’ve been psyched about this film since I first heard about it. Aranofsky disappointed me a bit with The Fountain, but one bad film isn’t enough to completely write him off. He did give us Pi after all. The Wrestler is the story of washed up wrestler Randy “The Ram” Robinson and his attempted comeback both inside the ring and out. I smell an Oscar nod for Rourke and possibly a best picture nomination for the film. Watch the trailer below and give me some damned feedback!

Marissa Tomei just keeps getting hotter. How is that possible?

What to Watch: Friday Nov. 20

Oscar season is upon us! Sadly this weeks releases have no signs of being contenders in any category. First up is the highly anticipated by frequent Hot Topic shoppers Twilight. Twilight is a teen-set Vampire romance which, with it’s PG-13 rating, will likely be a hit with anyone void of a driver’s license, but won’t appeal to a mass audience. I won’t be wasting my hard earned dollars on this pile of rancid dog feces. I’ve got a better idea, if you want to watch a Vampire movie go pick up Kathryn Bigelow‘s Near Dark, or better yet get your hands on a copy of Let the Right One In. Skip this mess.

I’ll probably lose all credibility after saying this, but I wouldn’t mind seeing Bolt. I’m not usually one for animated films, but this one has me intrigued. Bolt is the story of the canine star of a hit TV show who is accidentally shipped from his Hollywood soundstage to New York City. Armed only with the delusions that all his amazing feats and powers are real, and with the help of two unlikely traveling companions: a jaded, abandoned housecat named Mittens and a TV-obsessed hamster in a plastic ball named Rhino, Bolt discovers he doesnt need superpowers to be a hero.
Yes it’s formulaic, but damn it all it looks mildly entertaining. I’m not recommending anyone rush out to see this film, but I might catch a matinee. Scratch that, too many screaming brats at a matinee. I’ll throw down the extra couple of dollars to see a late evening show and avoid the germ carrying little mongrels.

I’ve liked Michael Rapaport since Zebrahead and True Romance. When I saw the trailer for Special I wasn’t quite sure what to think, I just knew that I had to see it. Special is the story of a lonely meter maid who enrolls in a drug study for an experimental anti-depressant. An unexpected side effect of the drug convinces him that he is developing super powers and must quit his job and answer a his new calling in life…to be superhero. A premise oddly similar to Bolt, but obviously targeted at a more adult audience. If your a fan of independent cinema and are lucky enough to be in one of the selected cities this movie is screening in go and see it. Check out the trailer below to get an idea of what you’re in for.

Xbox Netflix Streaming Service Stripped of Columbia Branded Films

Tomorrow, November 19th, is the official launch date of Microsoft’s massive overhaul of the Xbox 360′s interface, and one of the most interesting features is the ability to stream Netflix’s “Watch Now” films straight to your tv without the need for extra hardware (i.e. the Roku player). Joystiq has reported that unfortunately, mere hours before the launch, all movies owned by Columbia Pictures have been blocked from playing on the Xbox.

The reason? Columbia is owned by Microsoft rival Sony.

World War Z inches closer to the big screen

Quantam of Solace director Marc Forster has been tapped to direct the much anticipated by geeks like myself, World War Z adaptation for Paramount Pictures. WW:Z is based on Max Brooks best selling novel about a worldwide zombie infestation. “Changeling” scribe J. Michael Straczynski is writing the screenplay, and Brad Pitt’s Plan B is producing. Brooks who is the son of legend Mel Brooks, wrote a story in which a researcher for the U.N. Postwar Commission interviews survivors from countries all over the world, 10 years after the crisis, to gather a first-person account of a war that decimated every country on the map. If you haven’t read the book, it’s amazing. It’s a must read for fans of the genre.

Give ‘Em Hell Malone: Teaser

I’m not quite sure what to make of Thomas Jane. Sometimes I like him (The Mist), sometimes I don’t (The Punisher). The teaser trailer for Give ‘Em Hell Malone, which you can watch below, has the potential to be seriously ass kicking good time. Director Russell Mulcahy, however, hasn’t really done a good film since Highlander…and that was 1986.I will say that Mulcahy has delivered some aesthetically pleasing films even amongst his direct-to-dvd drivel. So there is a ray of hope for this film, even if it is a small one. Check out the “teaser” below and let me know what you think.
