and in the WTF column for the day comes this little nugget, the trailer for Dolph Lundgrens Command Performance.

Dying is easy, Rock and Roll is hard. At least that’s what the tagline for Lundgren’s ridiculous new Drummer Vs. Terrorist movie Command Performance says. To be honest I’ve skipped every Lundgren movie since the direct to video Army of One, which is complete guilty pleasure, but I must say that this looks too silly to pass up. Oh and did I mention that it’s written and directed by Lundgren himself? It’s getting added to my netflix queue as soon as it is available. Enjoy the awesomeness(awfullness?) below.

Max Payne Trailer

Embedded Video

I don’t really have a whole lot to say about this one except that the trailer shows potential.

Hey, if they’ve finally figured out how to make good comic book movies, maybe good video game movies are next?

Nevermind that I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for Mark Wahlberg. He’s like that one kid on the tee-ball team who never really figured out which base is first base, but he tries really hard so you pat him on the head and give him a trophy at the end of the season anyway.

Suddenly you realize that he’s the best player on the team, which is rounded out by Ludacris, Donal Logue, Mila Kunis, Nelly Furtado, and friggin Chris O’friggin’Donnell. And your wife gives you crap about drinking whiskey with your breakfast on game days… if only she knew...

And even if director John Moore makes garbage like the Omen remake and the Flight of the Phoenix remake, at least he has a decent sense of style. So as your team stumbles dejectedly back to the dugout, defeated in both score and morale, at least their uniforms look good on their shameful march back to their moms’ minivans.

They’re Here!Poltergeist gets a director?

The good peoples at Bloody Disgusting are reporting that director Vadim Perelman (House of Sand and Fog) is in serious talks to direct MGM’s Poltergeist reboot. As I stated before in the hands of the right person a Poltergeist remake might not be a bad idea. While I did enjoy House of Sand and Fog and do appreciate Perelman‘s visual style is he really the best we can do?
Here is the trailer from the original, just for fun.

2081 Trailer, based on Kurt Vonnegut’s Harrison Bergeron

I’ve been a fan of Vonnegut ever since a good friend of mine introduced me to Breakfast of Champions. So anytime the mans work is translated to film I’m interested. Below you’ll find the Trailer for the short film 2081 an adaptation of Vonnegut’s Harrison Bergeron. The trailer is visually arresting but doesn’t seem to resemble the story I remember reading. None the less, I’m psyched as hell. Give it a look and tell me what you think.
Here is a link to the official site for those of you who want to watch it in HD. It’s worth it
And here is a link to Doublethink’s interivew with Chandler Tuttle.

Voltron is coming to the bigscreen…we think.

A few weeks ago New Regency put the brakes on bringing Voltron to the big screen. Fortunately for geeks like me everywhere Relativity Media has scooped the project up and even attached director Max Makowski. Makowski only has a few films an tv episodes under his belt. Lets hope the folks at Relativity know what they’re doing. According to IMDB Makowski is currently in production on Kung Fu, a big screen adaptation of the popular 1970′s David Carradine show, so who knows how long it will be before we see giant robot lions.

Before the thunder…comes the madness.

The fake documentary based on the fake movie in Tropic Thunder is available to download FREE on ITunes. So if I haven’t already said it enough Tropic Thunder is hysterical. Go watch Rain of Madness now! If you don’t have ITunes download it. You can always delete it off your computer after you’re done watching the Madness!

Strangers 2: The Strangening!

I had very low expectations walking into Bryan Bertino‘s The Strangers. Mainly because the films realease date had been knocked around more than Tina while she was married to Ike. (Too soon?) And when that happens I usually expect a film to be a disaster. For the the first 3/4 of The Strangers I was surprised. I found it to be an entertaining, creepy, and atmospheric if somewhat flawed horror film. Unfortunately I loathed the ending which soured my taste for the film. But because I’m a sucker for a horror film (or just a sucker in general) I got a little excited when I heard that Rogue had fast tracked a sequel to the summer thriller. Rogue has brought Bertino back to write/direct the sequel putting his other project , Alone, on the backburner for now. Lets hope they get the ending right this time around.

The Killing Zzzzz…

The Killing Gene, aka W Delta Z, aka Devil’s Algebra

Usually, a name like Stellan Skarsgård will offset my reaction to any dvd with the word EXTREME emblazoned on the cover. That was quickly remedied by actually watching the movie.

What you get here is a shallow crime thriller with less plot and grace than an episode of CSI, a whole mess of Brits with bad American accents, and 102 minutes of excruciating boredom.  Scratch that. There was a solid 15 minutes in the last third of the movie that I enjoyed.

The godawful premise is that there is no such thing as love, just an instinct for survival.  Fine. That’s debatable. Somehow that serves as the explanation for a raped Selma Blair hunting and killing her assailants though, which is dubious in theory, but insultingly stupid in practice.

There is not ONE likable character in the whole movie.  Not the rape victim, not the cops, not the gang members, not even their children and grandmothers that they’re forced to kill.  The gore is negligible, and it’s hard to feel tense watching one person you hate torturing another person you hate.  Nothing funny, intentional or otherwise.

Stupid, boring, stupid. Ugh.

Watch the trailer below if you must.

Todd Solondz gets Happiness(er)

Todd Solondz is a man whose films are a bit hard to define, they are as offensive and unsettling as they are touching. As one might imagine he often has trouble financing said films. Thankfully the folks at Werc Werk Works have decided to give Solondz the greenlight on his upcoming semi-sequel to 1998′s Happiness, Life During Wartime. The film is set to star Demi Moore, Paul Reubens, and Emma Thompson. Each in varying stages of sexual and moral depravity I’m sure. I for one can’t wait.

Hollywood takes a crap in comic fans’ cornflakes.

Jesse Custer is pissed.

Jesse Custer is pissed.

G4′s Attack of the Show has reported that HBO has scrapped their live-action adaptation of Garth Ennis’ Preacher, calling it “too dark and too violent and too controversial.

Of course this follows on the heels of the announcement that the judge in the Fox vs. Warner Bros Watchmen lawsuit had failed to dismiss the case, leaving the (in the can!) film hanging in the balance.

That crinkling sound you hear is comic fans everywhere wiping their eyes with back issues of Wizard.
